A bag-in-box is a corrugated printed carton holding a high-barrier flexible inner bag. As the product is dispensed the bag collapses, so no air enters; an opened box therefore keeps its contents fresh for a long time. That is why wine, juice, coffee concentrate, syrup and cooking oil are so often packed in BIB.
The outlet uses a butterfly valve: press to dispense, release to stop, with a non-return design so dispensed liquid cannot be drawn back and contaminate the bag. The inner bag is available in metallised or transparent high-barrier film, depending on whether light protection is needed. Both aseptic caps — suited to hot filling and aseptic processes — and standard butterfly valves are available for conventional filling lines.
The outer carton ships flat, saving substantial warehouse space and freight; the filler simply erects it. The carton is printed in full colour and becomes a brand display surface in store. Customisable: volume (1L-20L), valve type, inner bag film, carton dimensions and printing.
